While this is slower than the average of all occupations compiled, it is not related to a decline in the industry but rather the existence of foreign competition. Because of this outsourcing to both foreign and domestic design firms, BLS believes the strongest growth will occur in computer systems design and other related services.
In spite of its slow growth, computer hardware engineers earned a median income of $97,400 in 2008; the lowest was $59,170 and the highest $148,590. These figures are substantially higher than other occupations in which one might choose to engage in spite of the definite need for at least a Bachelor's degree in a Computer Engineering online program.
