Online College Scholarships

Corporations, federal government agencies and military branches provide online college scholarships to qualifying students. You can also apply to receive online college scholarships through local education departments, worship centers, professional associations and individual colleges and universities. Some online college scholarships are large enough to cover the full costs of your online college tuition. Other scholarships only cover part of your tuition expenses.

Some scholarships are awarded based on your online college major. For example, if you major in subjects like education, history, science or engineering you can receive scholarships from organizations or private donors. If you’re a member of professional associations (e.g. American Bar Association, American Marketing Association Foundation, National Society of Professional Engineers) check the association’s benefits to see if they administer college scholarships. Keep in mind that some scholarships only run for a certain number of years. That’s why it’s important to apply for scholarships as soon as you learn about them.

More Information About Online College Scholarships

Check to see if scholarship money you receive is taxable. Generally, if you receive scholarship funds to cover your living expenses (e.g. food, school supplies), the money might be taxable. Remember that credible scholarship programs do not charge fees. Should you also apply for grants and student loans, make sure that your school and the organizations you receive scholarships from will allow you to combine all three financial aid forms to help pay for your tuition.

If you get online college scholarships that are renewable you may be able to get four to five years of college paid for. However, whether you apply for one-time or renewable online college scholarships remember to apply for the financial aid early, definitely before the application due dates. Get in the habit of searching and applying for several online college scholarships each year so you can take advantage of as many financial aid programs as possible.
